Every so often someone asks me, quite kindly, whether the dogs on our bottles are made up.
They're not. The careers are imaginary (no dog in this post has ever held down a job, unless you count Sadie's self-appointed role as head of security), but the dogs are entirely real, and so are their personalities. You can read their brand stories on Meet the Dogs. This post is the other side: the actual dogs, in their actual homes, being entirely themselves.
Real dogs. Real people. Imaginary careers. Very real personalities.
Lucia and Eric, the real Lady Lucia
Lady Lucia isn't one dog, she's a double act: Lucia and her tiny black Pomeranian, Eric. Lucia is the kindness and devotion. Eric is the attitude. If you've read Eric's between-grooms glow-up, you'll know he considers himself management.
Read Lady Lucia's story or have a look at her range.
Kev, the real Mr Dudley
[PHOTO: Kev]
Mr Dudley is played, with total commitment, by Kev: an English Bulldog who has his own Filthy Animal sofa and treats it as a throne. That face is not posed. That is simply how Kev looks at the world.
Read Mr Dudley's story or have a nose around his range.
Sadie, playing herself
[PHOTO: Sadie]
Sadie is our German Shepherd, and she doesn't need a character. She's permanently on guard, takes everything personally and moonlights as our resident ghost hunter. She's the face of Unbothered, our hemp and valerian calming grooming spray, which she would like you to know is a grooming spray and not a sedative. She remains fully operational.
Dee Dee, a chocolate Lab with a Pomeranian's soul
[PHOTO: Dee Dee]
Dee Dee belongs to one of my friends. She's a chocolate Labrador who is quite convinced she's a teacup Pomeranian, and she has no concept of personal space whatsoever. Sit down and she's on you. Stand up and she's leaning on you. That photo is her being restrained.
Read Dee Dee's story. Her Apple Bottom range is coming soon.
Betty, the newest recruit
[PHOTO: Betty]
Betty is my best friend's French Bulldog and the newest member of the pack. Like a lot of Frenchies, her skin needs a little extra kindness (here's why Frenchies are basically tiny dermatology patients), so Betty will be the face of an ultra-soothing balm for dry, sensitive skin. It's in the works. She's already practising her serious face.
Why real dogs matter
These dogs are the reason the range exists. Real dogs have muddy paws, wrinkly folds, endless fluff and strong feelings about bath time, and they're the toughest critics we know.
If your dog has a personality big enough for its own range, I'd love to hear about it. Come and say hello on Instagram.
Much love,
Sarah xx
